How Do I Become a Member?

The first thing to understand is that you don’t have to be a member of the church to attend or worship here. We’re a loving and gracious group of people, and if you love Jesus, or want to know more about Him, then we want you here!

While it’s true that the phrase “church member” doesn’t appear in the Bible, we believe there are a number of places that the New Testament paints a very clear picture about church membership. We believe it’s a vital part of our individual spiritual growth, as well as being absolutely necessary for the body of Christ to grow and work together as it’s supposed to. It’s not only an important step in your own faith journey, but also in your relationship with other believers.

In addition, membership is required if you want to participate in our church decision-making process, as well as being considered for a leadership role at Crossview. It’s essentially a way of saying, “I believe this is where God wants me to get plugged into the body of Christ. This is where I can worship & serve, become a part of a community, and go out on mission.” We’d encourage you to read 1 Corinthians 12 to 14, as well as Ephesians 4:11-14. If you still have questions, please feel free to speak to any of our pastors.

So what’s involved in the membership process?

Step 1 – Get to know us. Join us for Sunday worship. This may sound a little basic, but before you become part of the community at Crossview, you need to make sure you’re comfortable with who we are, how we worship and what we believe. We think you’ll find a warm, inviting and loving home here. You can read our statement of faith HERE.

Step 2 – Tell us you’re interested in membership. Let us know you’d like to be considered for membership by approaching any of our pastors; by filling out the connection form in the weekly bulletin; or by emailing us as contact@crossviewefca.com.

Step 3 – Arrange an interview. Once you’ve told us you’re interested, you’ll be contacted by one of our church elders, who’ll arrange an informal interview with you. This is so that our leadership can get to know you a little, and hear about your journey of faith and how you came to know Christ.

Step 4 – Attend a membership class. We take membership very seriously, and throughout the year we offer several 6 week membership classes for prospective members. These classes usually take place on a Sunday morning during the Bible study hour. It’s in these classes where you’ll learn more about who we are, what we believe, how to serve in the church, as well as our history and EFCA denomination we belong to.
